A Fall In Time.
A few posts below this one lies the end of my 2010 wilderness adventure. In all I think I posted some 673 photos, quotes and blog pieces in this project. This was just a fraction of the material I have, and that adventure was just one of several.
The basic premise of this tumblr was simple; it was 2012, two years since I left my job for adventures, and I would revisit these on a day to day basis, giving the reader an insight into what I did in 2010, what I saw, what I chose to document, capture, and write about.
In December this project came to an end (I actually have messages from then I have not replied to - and I feel rather guilty about this) and I have since toyed with what to do with this blog. Whether to leave it as it is – a coherent collection curated from a specific time period, or whether to keep adding to it with more tales of wilderness adventure. This has been a thorny problem, but not one I have had the time or energy to direct my attention to in the manner it truly deserves.
Then, in late May and early June, I had some spare time.
I was on holiday, helping cat sit somewhere in England, and for several hours each day I was alone (notwithstanding said cat). I mulled over my options. If I kept the name and blog as it is, I would not be able to use the name for a new tumblr (obviously!). If I changed the name and kept it as it is, then people who just found it would have to read the story in reverse – or scroll miles and miles down through all the posts. If I started adding to the tumblr then my wilderness story would become lost pages down, something which would be a little sad for all the effort I put into it.
Instead I chose another option. I created a new blog and then I spent some hours reblogging every single post in reverse order – so the positions are switched and the whole story can be read in chronological order while scrolling down. Of course the dates will not match, being reblogged in June and all, but that shouldn’t matter given that I made sure I added dates hither and thither as I went along. In fact, given that I started the blog a little later than I should, the entries are all now in order for the first time…
The new blog, cunningly entitled A Fall In Time (see what I did there) also contains a new introduction to the adventure.
This old blog, alexandermichaelcrow.tumblr.com, will still contain the same story, but it will be buried beneath forthcoming posts. In all, despite the extra work involved, I’m rather pleased with the result. This gives this tumblr many photos and posts for interested parties to read back through – or if someone is especially interested in the 2010 wilderness adventure, they can then go directly to the new blog, skipping all the other stuff.
It also means I can use both in relation to my forthcoming website – giving two separate directions for traffic to flow, depending on need or taste. More on this soon, I’ll be back shortly.
For now though – here’s the link:
