Another rock close up.
As the sun began to set, everything was bathed in a deep red light, highlighting cracks, layers, crevices in the rocks and casting fantastic shadows.
In the shelter I had built two of the sides were formed by such rocky outcrops - and I did experiment with cave painting, using charcoal, ground rocks and various other media, mixed with olive oil or animal fat. I think I painted a passable deer, but then accidentally caught it with the end of a hazel shaft I was straightening, smudging the lines. Ah well, the experiment was worthwhile.
